Volta

Cirque du Soleil returns to Los Angeles with its show Volta  January 18 – March 8 at Dodger Stadium.  The show is inspired by the adventurous spirit of street sports and their energetic, urban culture.

Volta explores the theme of celebrating differences and uniqueness in a world where technology often isolates people from one another, and shows that self-acceptance can bring liberation from the judgement of others, allowing one to fulfill one’s own potential.  It showcases visually striking costumes and acrobatics set to a melodic score that are Cirque du Soleil trademarks.

That lesson is told through the story of Waz, a gameshow contestant who was once full of dreams, but has now lost touch with himself, and is ashamed of his difference.  He has slipped into the doldrums of the Greys, the everyman city dwellers.  He thinks fame, and the love and adoration from others is the answer, but ends up finding inspiration from the FreeSpirits, former Greys who now strive to live free with no walls or barriers.  Ela is the archetypal FreeSpirit who sees untapped potential in others and tries to rouse them out of their apathy.  Other notable characters include Mr. Wow, the chief judge of the Mr Wow Show who holds the power to make you or break you, but you never know which way he will vote.

In Acro Lamp an aerial artist flies in long sweeping arcs, hanging on with his hands or feet, using light to metaphorically illuminate the journey of the character.  In Hand to Hand two colourful acrobats perform a daring hand to hand duo while rolling on a unicycle as part of a striking group choreography. In Shape Diving artists tumble and jump through shapes, sometimes feet first, sometimes backwards, sometimes bent in half, adding breakdancing and hip-hop style moves to the mix. In BMX  five riders invade the stage in a jaw-dropping, fast and furious performance of nonstop acrobatics on wheels.  In Flatland & Ballet Duo two artists create mirror-like images in a mesmerizing synchronization.  In Rope Skipping they tumble, flip, and perform handstand hops through the spinning ropes with an urban, hip hop attitude. In Acrobatic Ladder they execute stunning acrobatics on a giant articulated ladder pivoting on stage.

The Hennessy Black VIP Experience package provides the best and most comfortable seats and includes complimentary parking and a cocktail reception with open bar and show inspired hors d’oeuvres.
