Pain Summit

The International Pain Foundation will host its 12th Annual iPAIN Summit  November 14-16th at the UCLA Luskin Conference Center.

The  annual event draws professionals from hospitals, pain practices, academic institutions, health companies, state agencies, non-profits, and all levels of providers, patients and their caregivers.   

The Summit provides pain education through educational sessions that focus on better diagnosis and treatment options for pain patients, chronic pain issues as a whole, prescription monitoring programs, stem cell therapy, neuromodulation, virtual reality, homeopathy, and proper opioid management.

Sample topics include Scientific Advancements Relating to Treating Pain with A Focus on Infusion Therapy, Addiction and Pain, Traumatic Brain Injury And Pain, Lawsuit Protection for Providers, History, Early Assessment and Intervention of CRPS, Effects of Long Term HIV Survival, Acupuncture for Post-Surgical Patients to Optimize their Recovery,  A Dose of Music:  Healing the Body, Heart, Mind and Spirit with Sound, Using Bioelectric Medicine / Neuromodulation to Erase Pain, Use Your Mind To Get Fast Relief From Chronic Pain, Systemic Correlates of the TMJ Disorder & Neuroinflammation, Stem Cell Therapy as a Viable Pain Treatment, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field & OSKA Pulse. 

Augmenting the educational sessions is an exhibit area showcasing the latest  multi-modality, holistic tools for the treatment of chronic pain. 

Special evening events round out the programming. On Thursday November 14, 4pm is a screening of the film On a Scale of 1 to 10 about chronic pain0 which affects 1 out of 5 people in North America in various degrees. In extreme cases, people often find themselves misunderstood, isolated and falling into depression. Both the director Laurent Goldstein and the executive producer Jennifer Unruh have had a first-hand experience with chronic pain.  Their previous films include Your Second Fifty, rising above the fears of aging, and To life, death and beyond, the music of Magma. 

A fund-raising evening on Friday November 15, 6:30pm will celebrate family, friends and community, and raise awareness of pain conditions such as RSD, cancer pain, MS, lyme, diabetic neuropathy and more.  Emceed by Bunky from CBS Big Brother, it features an Orange Carpet, a  display of the International RSD Awareness Quilt, a silent auction, and a  live comedy show featuring comedians Daniel Garza and Tommy Lama.  The 2019 Hero of Hope awards will presented to Kevin Schlehuber of Big Brother CBS, Journalist Megan Roche, Actor Daniel Garza,  HealtheVoices Program, and Caregiver John Garrett.

The Summit organizers feel that with all the tools available today, the chronic pain community has never been more ready as it is today.  This event will be marketed internationally and will stream live for those unable to attend in person.
