Los Angeles Food & Wine

Southern California’s annual food and wine festival, Los Angeles Food & Wine, will return to LA for its ninth edition on August 22-25.  The four-day epicurean extravaganza will span the city with cuisine prepared by top chefs and  with wines from across California and the world.

The culinary stars on the festival marquee include Jeremiah Tower, native Angelenos Nancy Silverton, Jet Tila and Alvin Cailan, and transplants Curtis Stone, Tim Hollingsworth and Antonia Lofaso.

The festival kicks off  Thursday evening with a set of 14 dinners at restaurants across the city.   Among them is The Legends Dinner at Chi SPACCA with California cuisine at which Jeremiah Tower will join forces with Nancy Silverton for one night only for an intimate group  of forty.

At the Dinner at Otium, fans of Netflix’s The Final Table can watch 2018 season winner seasoned chef Tim Hollingsworth share the spotlight with rising  star chef  Travis  Swikard  at Hollingsworth’s downtown The Broad museum adjacent restaurant Otium.

The action then moves west to Barker Hangar Santa Monica for the remainder of the Festival.  Friday evening brings The Epic Burger Throwdown hosted by Angeleno native Alvin Cailan who has hilariously hosted four seasons of The Burger Show presented by First We Feast on You Tube.  The event features LA’s best burger flippers going bun to bun in a  juicy battle of  beef.

Guests will be invited to vote along with  celebrity judges Seth Rogen, Tiffani Thiessen and Adam Richman;  and a  weighted average will determine who wins the coveted LAFW Golden Burger Show Trophy.

Saturday noon brings LA’s Faves & Craves hosted by Jet Tila, a strolling event featuring 25 local chefs showcasing the diversity of L.A.’s culinary landscape.  There will be  tacos, pizza, hot dogs, donuts, and fried chicken along with Asian-inspired specialties.

Saturday evening brings Meat Me at LAFW’s Great Steak-out & BBQ.  Meat master Curtis Stone of Gwen Butcher Shop & Restaurant and 25 other great tamers of the flame will bring their game to LAFW.  Sides, desserts, Big Cabs and spirits  will complement the slabs of dry aged, wet aged, wet mopped, and dry rubbed hunks of meat that have gone trial by fire.  Along with the Turf will be some Surf, including an icy oyster bar and caviar tasting.

LAFW’s grand finale, the Sunday noon Brunch So Hard  stars  the self-taught chef  Jeremiah Tower, dubbed by Anthony Bourdain as ‘the Last Magnificent’.
